The Glasgow High School Jazz Ensemble will be performing at the University of Delaware Jazz Festival on Friday, April 16, 2010.  The ensemble will be performing at the University of Delaware’s Amy E. DuPont music building.  The UD Jazz Festival is a non-competitive event where middle school and high school ensembles perform throughout the day for adjudicators and their peers.  Adjudicators will be recording comments for the ensemble as they perform and will sometimes even meet with the band to make suggestions.

Following all the high school performances, in the evening, there are performances by the UD Faculty Jazz Ensemble and the U. S. Army Blues jazz ensemble at 7:00.  At the end of the evening concert, awards will be given out to outstanding sections and soloists.

The festival lasts throughout the day, so members of the GHS Jazz Ensemble will arrive at school, meet in the band room, and take a bus to the University of Delaware.  Students should pack food for a light lunch.  After the faculty jazz ensemble, we will be walking to Pat’s Pizza on Elkton Rd for dinner.

Attire for the event is the jazz ensemble red shirt and black pants with gold tie for the guys and a red top and black pants/skirt for the girls.  No sneakers!  The band will be performing three songs: “Softly as in a Morning Sunrise”, “Narnian Dance”, and “La Suerte de los Tantos”.

Preliminary Fall 2010 Schedule PDF Print E-mail

The 2010 Marching Band season schedule is currently being developed.  Although some dates and times will need to be adjusted as the season gets closer, we do have a pretty good idea of where and when most things will be.

There are a few significant changes to the schedule this year, most notably the Band Camp schedule.  Instead of 2 full weeks of band camp from 9:00-5:00, we will be doing 12 hour days for 1 week, 9:00AM-9:00PM.  That will be the week of August 9th-13th.  The previous week there will be three days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) 9:00-5:00 for percussion and colorguard.

There are three competitions on the schedule, plus Chapter Championships.  Homecoming weekend is October 8-9.  We have no competition scheduled that weekend, so enjoy the dance on Saturday!  The Halloween Parade is scheduled for Halloween itself, October 31st.  Senior Night is  November 5th.
